The book of Malachi, the last book in the Old Testament, concludes with these words:
Remember the law of Moses My servant, even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel. “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.” (Malachi 4:4-6)
For 400 hundred years the nation of Israel waited for this prophet to no avail. Today it is hard for us to wait four minutes for the microwave to pop our corn. But for generations after generations (ten?) the Jews waited for this prophet to announce the Day of the Lord. This was the day God would set things right upon the earth restoring the Edenic Vision.
But how does a nation wait? First to remember (obey) the what God revealed to them in the Old Testament. Secondly, since they turned away from God as a nation, they must repent. Doing this will turn (the word means to repent) the people back to God. I do not take the “fathers/children” metaphorically as familial healing, but literally, as national repentance for spiritual healing. (This is why John and eventually Jesus preached “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is near.
This Sunday we examine what happens after four hundred years of waiting. John the Baptist in fulfillment of Isaiah 40:1-5 accepts the call as Forerunner, (John 1:19-23; 29-31). While John was crying in the Wilderness, his cry was reverberating in Hell. All Hell got a wakeup call, “ASLAN WAS ON THE MOVE!”
This Lord’s Day, we shall look at seven supernatural moves against THE UNSEEN REALM!
