Almost fifty years ago, I believed the Message of Life. I have read and reread through the Bible many times. Yet it continues to intrigue and mystify me. It remains an enigmatic book full of “cookies” waiting to be found.
Until the past couple of months I could not understand why Satan killed Jesus. Was this not counter productive to his best interest? I mean was he stupid? No, he was not. But surly he knew of the Old Testament prophecies concerning Christ. Could he not read the Old Testament?
And how about Peter? When Jesus tells the disciples he must go to Jerusalem to suffer and die, why did he say, “God forbid it Lord, This shall never happen to you,” (Matthew 16:22). He was a believer, but did not seem to get the die and resurrected three days later thing.
And finally, even after the resurrection, the disciples had to have their minds supernaturally opened to see a suffering servant, Luke 24:44-45.
How did these individuals miss all the prophecies concerning the death, burial and resurrection of the Messiah in the Old Testament? Actually they did not. Because there is no single Old Testament verse that has a dying and rising Messiah.
Dr Heiser puts it this way, “By God’s design, the Scripture presents the messiah in terms of a mosaic profile that can only be discerned after the pieces are assembled. Paul tells us why not in 1 Corinthians 2:6-8. If the plan of God for messiah’s mission had been clear, the powers of darkness would never have killed Jesus — they would have known that his death and resurrection were the key to reclaiming the nations forever.”
God hid Jesus in plain sight! And this explains why Satan wished to kill Jesus. He had after all blown up Adam, Israel and Moses through sin. He was not hell bent on killing Jesus, but on disqualifying Jesus.
Join me this Sunday as we begin to assemble the Messianic Mosaic revealing the Cryptic Christ.
OH YES, I DID NOT MENTION THE “RIDER OF THE CLOUDS.” WELL I GUESS YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO COME SUNDAY!!!
