COVID-19 Closures2020-03-19T16:22:14-06:00

March 19, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

What a difference a week makes!  Last week in this Chronicle I announced the leadership decided to meet on Sunday.  But now we are in uncharted waters. No one is unaffected.  This virus has not only affected Americans physically but also financially, emotionally and spiritually.  We are in uncharted waters.

Many of you have asked if we will continue to meet on Sundays.  In short, the Pastors and Elders decided it not prudent to do.  There are several reasons leading to this decision.

First, our Governor and President, directed group gatherings be limited to no more than ten people over the next fifteen days.  While I am not sure just how bad this emergency really is. I am completely convinced I do not want a single member of our church family infected as a result of assembling together.

Secondly, we are also sensitive to the command of Scripture to be in “subjection to the governing authorities,” Romans 13:1.

And finally we do not want to give “cause for offense in anything, so that the ministry will not be discredited…”(2 Corinthians 6:3).

Again for these reasons, we will not meet this Sunday or the following Sunday.  Along with suspending Sunday assembling, ALL Bible studies are suspended until further notice.  These include the ladies study on Tuesday morning and Night School with John on Tuesday evenings and FIGHT CLUB.  Youth Group is suspended for the next two Sundays.

But knowing how connected of a church we are, we hope to mitigate this disruption by the following:

  1. This Sunday, I will deliver a message online focusing on the fear running rampant in society and even in the church.  In the Old Testament alone the word for fear is mentioned almost 400 times and 70 times in the New Testament.  By this we might assume after the Fall, fear became part and parcel of our personality.  This will either be on Facebook or Youtube.  By Friday we shall now what platform and email you the address.  If you have not joined our church page on Facebook, now would be a good time to do so.  You can find us on Facebook, CROSSPOINT COMMUNITY CHURCH.
  2. Beginning this Monday, March 23rd there will be a daily online devotional leading up to Easter.  I, along with Pastor Michael, Steve Walkup, Randy Mills and John Niemela will present a 3-5 minute devotional from the Gospel of John on our Facebook page.  We will each take a portion of a chapter and share devotional thoughts with you.  It is imperative during the time of, shall I say chaos, we focus on the Lord of Life, Jesus Christ.
  3. Michael and I, along with the Elders, will remain available if any of you need us.  So please do not hesitate to drop us an email or call us at the church.  The office will remain open during the next two weeks.
  4. Finally, we are in process of assembling a MERCY CORP of volunteers who will help those of our congregation in the high-risk category who may be confined to their home by running errands or picking up essentials at the grocery store.  But we need your help with this.  If you can serve on the MERCY CORP,  please email me or Michael.  If you are in the high-risk group and need assistance please email me or Michael.  We do not want to miss anybody.

I know most of you parents are not teachers. But you are learning to be one with the closing of schools.  You are teaching reading, writing and arithmetic.  But please, in light of us not meeting, neglect teaching your children, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Eunice Forster our rock star Children’s Director greatly loves your children.  She has found a way to continue teaching them about God online.  Here is her message to you.

Dear Sunday School Families,

What an unpredictable and chaotic time we are in right now but I do know that God is in control and we can stand firm in His love.

Even though we cannot meet on Sundays to worship together, I think now is more important than ever to pray with our children and study the word with them. We were able to find some online videos and material for a “virtual Sunday School”. We are going to put a pause on our current curriculum until we can resume gathering together but I would highly encourage you to go to this LifeWay website to watch the lesson videos with your kids and download the materials to use as applications to discuss the message.

I am using this opportunity to talk with my kids about trusting in God and being responsible. And how in crisis situations we need to be more kind to one another and not be thinking about our own needs. I especially love sharing the wonderful stories of kind people reaching out to the elderly to bring them toilet paper or do their grocery shopping. Trying to turn something negative into a positive learning lesson is always a plus!

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy and can’t wait to see all your beautiful kids soon!

The Church of Jesus Christ has for over two centuries adapted, survived and overcome.  And It will do so in this crisis.  You can count on it, because He promised it.  Of his Church, His Body, His called-out ones, He said, “the gates of Hades will not overpower it, Matthew 16:18.

While we may be in uncharted waters, we are not without a Captain. They are not uncharted for Him. He knows the way to safe harbor. So, this is a time to batten down the hatches of our heart, and trust the Captain of our souls. (Psalm 54)

You all are an amazing group of men, women, boys and girls.  We are truly a family who loves each other and is willing to care for each other.  We will get through this and hopefully rejoice together on RESURRECTION DAY, APRIL 12TH.  Until then, lets us remain in prayer and in His Word and unmoved by the fear of the tempest.

Please feel free to email Michael or me with any questions or concerns.

Blessed to be your pastor!
